The United Kingdom is prepared to move forward with using the total value of frozen Russian funds to support the Ukrainian defense operations, PM Sir Keir Starmer has stated.
In a shared declaration, the leaders of the UK, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany stated that this coordinated action would heighten pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin and persuade Moscow to participate in talks.
They further noted that the decision would be executed in strong partnership with the US.
UK penalties have blocked more than £25bn of Russian assets since the Russian government launched its full-scale invasion against the Ukrainian nation in 2022. However, previously, money sent to Ukraine using Russian assets had solely been sourced from earnings and returns accrued on them.
Sir Keir informed Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky that the Britain, France, and Germany were in agreement in their aim to advance efforts toward using the total worth of the immobilized Russia's state holdings to end the war.
He stated that more sanctions soon would heighten the tension on Moscow.
This statement comes after EU officials convened in the Danish capital recently to debate employing immobilized Russian holdings for a 140-billion-euro credit to Ukraine.
In the previous month, President Donald Trump urged Group of Seven partners to confiscate or utilize seized Russia's funds, based on reports.
The total of immobilized Russian holdings in the European Union is assessed to be almost €211bn.
Leader Zelensky encourages the United Kingdom's Sir Keir Starmer to join the PURL programme
Russia carried out widespread missile and drone strikes across the Ukrainian territory on that day, causing power cuts in many areas of the capital city, Kyiv, and several other zones.
Several persons were killed and no fewer than 20 people were hurt in the assault, Ukrainian officials said.
In a message on social media after the attack, Zelensky wrote that the premeditated assault focused on civilian and energy infrastructure.
"The necessity is not just talk but firm measures - from the United States, the European Union, and the G7 - in providing defense mechanisms and enforcing restrictions," he emphasized.
"Every sanction decision weakens Moscow's military apparatus," Zelensky declared, in a separate post.
In the same period, Zelensky informed media outlets he would urge Sir Keir to join the weapons procurement program, under which alliance members buy arms from the United States to give to the Ukrainian forces.
While applauding the United Kingdom's firm backing for the Ukrainian government, he said it should demonstrate clearly that it would take part in the program, as well as enforce more restrictions on the Russian Federation.
