The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
The preview reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is what Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
