World Series Game 7 Draws Over 50 Million Viewers Across the US, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The exciting extra-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a aggregate over 50 million watchers in the United States, Canada, and Japan territories. Major League Baseball stated this is the most-watched World Series Game 7 since the 1991 contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game drew 27.33 million audience members on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series game since the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a 16% improvement over the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed 4th, the fourth game was seventh, Game 5 was 8th, and the third game landed in thirteenth position.

International Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English-language broadcast in Canada after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12 million. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – drew 13.1M spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game series averaged 15.71M audience members on Fox, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience growth for two straight years.

Including the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the total American viewership was 16.1M. The total Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09M viewers, an 8% increase compared to the previous year and Fox’s best postseason performance after 2017.

MLB stated that the World Series was televised in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 various tongues.
